Name: Pettit Campground
Pettit Campground, not to be confused with Pettit Lake Campground, is south of Twin Falls, Idaho, near Magic Mountain Ski Resort. The campground is on a shaded side hill along the road with mountains behind. Every site has mature forest providing shade and privacy. However, some of the sites are close together. I like campsite 7 best. It is located on the bottom end of the campground. It is a bit by itself with a trail leading down the valley and has a great view of the area below.
Campsites: There are 9 campsites in Pettit Campground. At site #1 you park on the edge of the road and walk to your table and fire ring. Site #2 through #6 each have a picnic table and fire ring with attached grill. Site #7 has a great view down the valley, while 8 and 9 have a large fire ring with benches located between them. If you need two sites this would be great.
Host on Site: No.
Water: Pettit Campground is on a pressurized water system like the other campground in this area.
Garbage Services: There is a dumpster in one of the parking lots near Diamondfield Jack Campground..
Electricity Available: No.
Restroom: There are two older vault style outhouses. They were clean and well stocked when I visited.
Handicap Accessible: No.
Firewood: You will need to provide your own firewood.
Pets: Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash.
Picnic Area: No.
Recreation: Camping, fishing and hiking are the primary activities. This is high country, approximately 6900 feet so you will find alpine forests. This is a great area for "birders". The many trails allow people to get to many spots which would otherwise be unavailable for observation.
Fishing: There are trout in the streams in the surrounding mountains but finding a good hole can be challenging. Check the regulations here.
Boating: No.
Swimming: No.
Wildlife: Deer are common and one could see bear, elk, wolves, coyotes and many small forest animals as well as many bird species.
Additional Camping Opportunities: We have review for these nearby campgrounds; Schipper Campground, Steer Basin Campground, Lower Penstemon Campground, Upper Penstemon Campground, Porcupine Springs Campground, FS Flats Campground, Diamondfield Jack Campground and Pettit Campground. Plus Harrington Fork Picnic Area.
Phone service: The nearest phone I found is at Rock Creek General Market.
Nearby Services: Rock Creek General Store is the nearest source of supplies or services. They offer food at their cafe, a convenience store, gas and propane. For further information, call them at 208-423-5659.
RV Dumping Site: None nearby, but I have found one at Anderson Camp 1188 E. 990 S. Eden, ID. They charge $8.00 for use of their RV dump.
Location/Driving instructions: From Twin Falls follow this Google Map.
