FS Flats Campground

Name: FS Flats Campground

FS Flats Campground has recently been expanded. The new sites have a gravel road and driveway with a picnic table and fire ring with an attached grill. Camping is free as there is no water offered on site. The flat has open grassy areas where one could set-up a volleyball net or lay out a ball diamond. With an altitude of 7000 feet one can count on cool nights and bright sunny days during the summer. There are trails nearby for hikers, bikers, four wheelers and horsemen. Some sites are in the open if you want the sunshine and others are shaded if you like the cool summer days. I like this campground! All it needs is a lake.

Campsites: I counted 17 campsites. Most are new and have a picnic table and fire ring with attached grill. The older campsites may not have a fire ring or picnic table but will probably have the best setting.

Host on Site: No.

Water: No.

Garbage Services: No, pack it out with you.

Electricity Available: No.

Restroom: There are two new vault style outhouses which where clean and stocked when we visited.

Handicap Accessible: The outhouses are handicap accessible.

Firewood: You will need to provide your own.

Pets: No restrictions post.

Picnic Area: It's all free so feel free to picnic. There are sites on the north side which set on the edge of the flats that would offer a great place to play ball.

Recreation: Camping! Activities include hiking, riding the many trails by horse or four wheelers, photography, birding, wildlife viewing, fishing and hunting. While reviewing one of the campgrounds nearby, I visited with a couple who were here doing research on the birds in this area.

Fishing: Fishing is popular on Rock Creek but I over heard a conversation that the "good" fishing was in the isolated streams.

Boating: None.

Swimming: None.

Wildlife: Deer are common in these woods and one can find elk, bear, wolves and many other smaller woodland animals as well as many species of birds.

Additional Camping Opportunities: We have reviews for these nearby campgrounds; Schipper Campground, Steer Basin Campground, Lower Penstemon Campground, Upper Penstemon Campground, Porcupine Springs Campground, Diamondfield Jack Campground and Pettit Campground. Plus Harrington Fork Picnic Area.

Phone service: None.

Nearby Services: Rock Creek General Store is the nearest source of supplies or services. They offer food at their cafe, a convenience store, gas and propane. For further information call them at 208-423-5659.

RV Dumping Site: None nearby, but I have found one at Anderson Camp 1188 E. 990 S. Eden, ID. They charge $8.00 for use of their RV dump.
