Name: Fly Flat Campground
Fly Flat Campground is located on the east banks of the St Joe River in a heavily forested area. The campground itself is on a flat next to the river. This is a beautiful spot and is a campground Terri and I would camp at again.
Campsites: There are 14 campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. The road and driveways are gravel. These campsites offer a bit more privacy than most due to the heavy forest and undergrowth. There is no extra parking but one could squeeze an extra car in at the campsite in most cases. There is 1 campsite equipped for horses.
Host on Site: No, however one could get help at the Red Ives Ranger Station.
Water: There is a hand pump equipped well for water.
Garbage Services: No
Electricity Available: No
Restroom: There is a newer vault style outhouse available. It was clean and well stocked.
Handicap Accessible: The outhouse is handicap equipped.
Firewood: You will need to provide your own.
Pets: Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash. There is one campsite equipped for horses near the entrance.
Picnic Area: There is no "picnic site" but we ate our lunch here in an empty campsite.
Recreation: Camping, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and hunting in it's season are the primary activities here. I would also like to spend some time here with my camera. The river has some spots that are gorgeous.
Fishing: Fishing in the St Joe River offers a variety of fishing styles. The river at the campground is wide and shallow, I would fly fish here but downstream a few miles there are rapids and pools where I would use my spinners. Check the regulations here.
Boating: None here.
Swimming: No, wading yes.
Wildlife: I would expect to find deer, elk, black bear, possibly grizzly bear, wolves, mountain lions and many other forest animals in these mountains.
Additional Camping Opportunities: We have reviews for these other campgrounds on the St. Joe River; Shadowy St Joe Campground, Huckleberry Campground, Upper Landing Picnic Area, Packsaddle Campground, Turner Flat Campground, Tin Can Flat Campground, Conrad Crossing Campgrounds, Beaver Creek Camp, Line Creek Stock Camp and Spruce Tree Campground.
Phone service: There was no phone service in this area.
Nearby Services: The nearest basic services and food stuffs would be at Avery, Idaho.
RV Dumping Site: There is a dump station at Upper Landing Picnic Area.
Location/Driving instructions: Follow this Google Map from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
