Name: Turner Flat Campground
Turner Flat Campground, like the other campgrounds in this area, is situated along the St Joe River on a small flat. The area is heavily forested and offers shade and privacy in most campsites.
Campsites: There are 11 RV / tent campsites. Each is equipped with the standard picnic table and fire ring. Campsites 1 & 2 are intended to accommodate the horseman, having feed bunks and more room. Site 2 is very open and sunny. The driveways are also very long. The road and driveways are gravel.
Host on Site: No
Water: There is a hand pump equipped well for camp water. The well is tested monthly for bacteria and is safe, but I don't drink the water from these wells.
Garbage Services: No, pack your garbage out with you.
Electricity Available: No
Restroom: There is a vault style outhouse for your use and it was fairly clean and well stocked at the time of our visit.
Handicap Accessible: The outhouse is handicap accessible.
Firewood: There is no firewood for sale here, you will need to provide your own.
Pets: Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash.
Picnic Area: There is no picnic area here.
Recreation: Camping, fishing and playing in the river are the main recreational activities here. However, there is also backpacking, hiking and the Trail of the Hiawatha is not too far away for a days bike ride. Check out this company offering package deals. It is one of several.
Fishing: Fishing is available in the St Joe River. Check the regulation and seasons here.
Boating: There are rapids scattered along this stretch of the river and we saw people floating, rafting and kayaking here.
Swimming: The river is a bit shallow at the campground but I am sure one could find a better spot to swim nearby.
Wildlife: We didn't see any wildlife but one could expect deer, elk, black bear and grizzly bear to live in these mountains. There were no bear warnings at Tin Can Flat Campground.
Additional Camping Opportunities: We have reviews for these other campgrounds on the St. Joe River; Shadowy St Joe Campground, Huckleberry Campground, Upper Landing Picnic Area, Packsaddle Campground, Turner Flat Campground, Tin Can Flat Campground, Conrad Crossing Campgrounds, Fly Flat Campground, Beaver Creek Camp, Line Creek Stock Camp and Spruce Tree Campground.
Phone service: None
Nearby Services: The nearest basic services and food stuffs would be at Avery, Idaho.
RV Dumping Site: There is an RV dump station at Upper Picnic Landing just down the road.
Location/Driving instructions: Follow this Google Map from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Fees And Reservations: This is a first come first served facility, no reservations available. At least half the sites were still occupied at about 3pm on Sunday afternoon so I would recommend arriving early for the weekend to secure a campsite. The daily fee is $6.
