Name: East Fork Recreation Site
East Fork Recreation Site sits on a bench above the rivers where the East Fork of the Salmon River and the Salmon River meet. The hills around are sagebrush covered with no forest nearby. There are a few cottonwood trees along the rivers. We visited this recreation site on a week day during July and it was empty.
Campsites: There are 10 tent / RV camping sites, each having a picnic table with cover and a fire pit with an attached grill. The road and driveways are gravel as well as the area around the table. Some sites have a bit of lawn and the middle section around the host and outhouses is mowed and watered with a sprinkler system.
Host on Site: There is a host on site.
Water: The water system is pressurized and the water is clean, cool and clear. I did not taste it.
Garbage Services: There is garbage service available.
Electricity Available: No.
Restroom: The outhouse looks like it should be a flushing toilet but its not. It is handicap accessible.
Handicap Accessible: East Fork Recreation Site is handicap accessible. The outhouse is handicap accessible and the campground itself is pretty smooth. However, getting down to the river could be a challenge.
Pets: Pets are allowed but must be on a leash.
Picnic Area: East Fork Recreation Site has a small picnic area along the Salmon River.
Recreation: Recreation at the campground is limited to camping and fishing. If you are willing to drive a little, there are several historic areas to visit. Check out the Yankee Fork area and take a drive to the Land of the Yankee Fork State Park up Bayhorse Creek. If you like to explore, there are many trails to hike, bike, or ride your horse on. Check out the White Cloud Mountains to the southwest or the Salmon River Mountains to the northwest and southeast.
Fishing: Fishing is available in the Salmon River and many other streams in the area. be sure to check the regulations for restrictions on the water you choose to fish.
Boating: No boating facilities here but people do float the Salmon River.
Swimming: I didn't see any swimming area in either the Salmon River or the East Fork of the Salmon River.
Wildlife: I could imagine seeing deer on the hills and along the river but would not expect to see any other wildlife here other than an occasional fox or coyote and many birds.
Additional Camping Opportunities: We have reviews for the following campgrounds; Holman Creek Campground, Whiskey Flats Campground, Herd Lake Campground, Bayhorse Recreation Site and Bayhorse Lake Campground. I did not see any free primitive camp sites in this area.
Phone service: There is spotty cell phone reception along Hwy 75 on our AT T phones and there is a phone at the gas station to the west.
Nearby Services: For those supply items you run low on such ice, pop and food or even a meal, there is a convenience store 8.3 miles to the west on hwy 75. They also have gas for your vehicle.
RV Dumping Site: There is a RV dumping station at the Land of the Yankee Fork Interpretive Center along the north edge of the parking lot. It is located at the junction of Hwy 93 and Hwy 75 and there is no fee for its use.
Location/Driving instructions: East Fork Recreation Site is at the confluence of the Salmon River and the East Fork of the Salmon River on Hwy 75 between Stanley, Idaho and Challis, Idaho. Stanley is 37.5 miles to the west and Challis is 19.7 miles to the north.
