Holman Creek Campground

Name: Holman Creek Campground

Holman Creek Campground is across Hwy 75 from the Salmon River north of the White Cloud Mountains. The campground is against the hills to the south. The hills are forested right down to the sites while the flat land is completely open.

Campsites: There are 10 campsites in the Holman Creek Campground. Six sites are along the hill south of the highway, while the other four are in a valley along Holman Creek. These 4 sites are out of sight of the highway and I found them very appealing. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring with attached grill. The road and driveways are gravel. The turn around at the end of the campground is small and would be difficult for a large RV to turn around in.

Host on Site: No.

Water: There is potable water available from a hand-pump equipped well.

Garbage Services: Yes, there is a dumpster near the outhouse.

Electricity Available: No.

Restroom: There is a vault style outhouse which was not clean when we made our review.

Handicap Accessible: The outhouse is handicap accessible.

Firewood: There is a sign stating firewood is available from the host, but there is no host here. There is firewood available at East Fork Recreation Site.

Pets: Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash.

Picnic Area: There is no picnic area here. The nearest one is at East Fork Recreation Site to the east along Hwy 75.

Recreation: The Salmon River is just across the highway for fishing. There is a trail leading south into the hills up Holman Creek if you are up for a hike. If you like rafting, travel back up the river where there are rapids up to class IV between here and Stanley. If you enjoy ghost towns, take a ride up the Yankee Fork of the Salmon River to Custer.

Fishing: Fishing is available in the Salmon River, and many nearby creeks. Check the regulations.

Boating: No.

Swimming: Holman Creek runs through the campground. It is small and could be fun for you and your kids to play in.

Wildlife: Deer are common here. Elk, bear, wolves and other wildlife live in the mountains within a few miles. There were no warnings about bear or other animals.

Additional Camping Opportunities: We have reviews for these nearby campgrounds; Upper O'Brien Campground, Lower O'Brien Campground, Whiskey Flats Campground, East Fork Recreation Site, Herd Lake Campground and Bayhorse Recreation Site.

Phone service: There is cell phone service at Stanley, Challis, and along Hwy 75 at different locations such as Clayton. There are pay phones at Stanley, Challis and the convenience store near the campground.

Nearby Services: There is a convenience store just 3.6 miles to the east on Hwy 75 for gas, food, ice, pop and propane.

Location/Driving instructions: From Stanley, Idaho, take Hwy 75 for 25.5 miles, and the campground is on the right. From Challis, Idaho, take Hwy 93 south for 2.3 miles to the junction with Hwy 75. Turn right onto Hwy 75 and drive 29.4 miles to the campground on the left.
