South Fork Salmon River Campground

Name: South Fork Salmon River Campground

The South Fork Salmon River Campground is located in a bend of the South Fork of the Salmon River near Warm Lake. Several campsites are along the river and others are on the slope above. A fire burned this area many years ago so there are only a few mature trees.

Warm Lake is a short distance away by car where you may enjoy all of the recreational opportunities during the day but stay in this campground where it is likely to be quieter.

Campsites: There are 11 campsites each with a picnic table and fire ring. Some have a few mature trees while others do not. The road and driveways are gravel while the sites are dirt.

Host on Site: No.

Water: Yes.

Garbage Services: Yes.

Electricity Available: No.

Restroom: There are 2 vault style outhouses both were reasonably clean at the time of our visit.

Handicap Accessible: The only handicap accessible feature in the campground is one of the toilets...

Firewood: Gather your own or buy some from the lodges or camp hosts at Warm Lake.

Pets: There is a sign indicating pets must be on a leash.

Picnic Area: No.

Recreation: Fishing, hunting, hiking, photography are among the recreational opportunities in this area.

Fishing: The South Fork of the Salmon River flows around the campground but I got no bites on my Mepp's spinners. Warm Lake and other streams are nearby. Trout will be the most common fish in this area. Salmon use the river in their season.

Boating: Not here but Warm Lake is near and some campers use this campground if the Warm Lake campgrounds are full.

Swimming: One could play in the river but there would be no "swimming". Warm Lake has a beach.

Hiking: To check out the trails in this area follow this link https://trails.idaho.gov.

Wildlife: You may see a variety of wildlife including bear, deer, elk, fox, grouse, whooping crane and otters, all live in this area.

Additional Camping Opportunities: Additional campgrounds nearby include The Horsethief Reservoir Campgrounds. At Warm Lake you will find Warm Lake, Shoreline and Picnic Point campgrounds. I have seen many campers in primitive sites along Warm Lake Rd also.

Phone service: We didn't get any service on our cell phones.

Nearby Services: There are 2 lodges at Warm Lake which offer limited services. There is a restaurant in the North Shore Lodge and a small store is mentioned on their website. Warm Lake Lodge also has a restuarant. For most other things you would need to make a trip out to Cascade.

Gas and Food: Cascade, Idaho is your best location for gas or other supplies such as groceries.

RV Dumping Site: Cascade would be the nearest RV dump.
