Indian Creek Campground - Northern Idaho

Name: Indian Creek Campground - Northern Idaho

Indian Creek Campground is part of Priest Lake State Park. The campground is located on the eastern shore of Priest Lake where Indian Creek empties into the lake. The northern end of Priest Lake extends to within 15 miles of the Canadian border. The primary lake, lower Priest Lake, is 19 miles long and over 300 feet deep. Upper Priest Lake is connected by a 2.5 mile thoroughfare to lower Priest Lake. The campground is on a gentle slope and is covered with a mature forest. Campsites range from full sun to full shade.

Host on Site: There are at least 2 camp hosts and several staff members.

Water: Water is available as described in the "campsite" section above and several other locations scattered through the campground. Refer to the map in the "campsite" section.

Garbage Services: Garbage dumpsters are located in several locations as are "gray water' disposals.

Electricity Available: Please refer to the "campsite" section above.

Restroom: There are 2 main restroom facilities. They are equipped with lavs, toilets and showers. I have included pictures in the "facilities" page.

Handicap Accessible: Indian Creek Campground offers better handicap accessiblility than most campgrounds.

Firewood: Firewood may be purchased from the hosts, however, I failed to record the price.

Pets: Pets are allowed in the campground but must be kept on a leash or kenneled.

Picnic Area: There is a day use area at the beach with a few tables. You could swim, play volleyball and sun on the beach right there at the picnic area.

Recreation: Priest Lake provides most of the recreational opportunities through swimming, boating, canoeing, fishing or just playing on the beach. However, the mountains are also very beautiful. It was our intent to find several waterfalls indicated on our map but could only find 1 as the smaller roads and almost all creeks are not marked with signs. We picked up guides for several short hikes but couldn't find the trailhead for any of them, except for the trails directly in campground or starting from the campground. If the powers that be would spend a small amount of money to put up signs or paint the creek names on bridges it would help.

Fishing: Fishing is available in Priest Lake and many streams in the surrounding mountains. Check the regulations through a link we have on our Idaho Fishing page.

Boating: Indian Creek Campground has a boat launch with 2 nice docks. You may beach your boat or at least I saw a boat beached near the docks. However, there is a large parking area if you wish to pull your boat from the water and leave it parked there.

Swimming: Indian Creek Campground has a large beach with a roped off swimming area, of course, there is no lifeguard on duty. Swimming is at your own risk.

Wildlife: We didn't see any wildlife on our visit, however, I woud expect to find whitetail deer, black bear, moose and many smaller forest animals. Do use caution when hiking as there are grizzly bear and mountain lions in these mountains.

Additional Camping Opportunities: We have reviews for these nearby campgrounds; Outlet Campground, Upper Luby Bay, Luby Bay, Reeder Bay, Osprey Campground and Lionhead Loop(Priest Lake State Park).

Phone service: There are pay phones available at the visitors center/store area and I was able to get some spotty service down at the picnic area on my ATT phone. The park advertises wifi service but it was so slow we never got anywhere with it.

Nearby Services: Groceries, pop, fishing tackle and other items may be purchased from the camp store. There is also gas available at the store. For more extensive services you might need to drive to Priest River.

RV Dumping Site: Indian Creek has an RV dump station near the entrance which is free to campers.

Nearest Shower: In the campground.

Nearest Laundry: There is a laundry located beside the camp store.

Location/Driving instructions: From Sandpoint, Idaho follow this GoogleMap.
