Name: Hot Springs Campground

Hot Springs Campground is on the north side of the road across from the South Fork of the Payette River. It is set down in a deep narrow river valley. The forest is mature, with widely spaced ponderosa pines. Some sites have good shade while others are very sunny. There are hot springs across the road next to the river with a path which leads down to them. Check out our pictures.

Campsites: There are 3 group sites and 8 single tent / RV sites. Group site 1 and 2 have a capacity of 200 persons per recreation.gov, but a little less per "Doris", the camp host. Group site 3 has a capacity of 50. Each of these sites have a large parking area, a camping area, a meeting area with benches, and a picnic table area with cooking facilities. The single tent / RV camping sites each have a picnic table, fire ring and grill. The roads and driveways are all paved.

Host on Site: For 2010, "Doris" was the camp host. Do her a favor; if you are using the hot springs but not camping, use the parking area across the road at the hot springs.

Water: There is pressurized potable water available throughout the campground. It tastes fine.

Garbage Services: Yes, there is garbage service available here.

Restroom: There are 2 vault style outhouses available in the campground that were clean and well maintained.

Handicap Accessible: Yes, the site is handicap accessible, however the hot springs is not.

Firewood: Firewood is available from the host for $6.00 per bundle.

Pets: Pets are allowed on a leash only.

Picnic Area: There is no picnic area but if one of the group sites is not in use, Doris may allow you to use it.

Recreation: The primary recreation here is the hot springs located just across the road. However, the surrounding area offers hiking, trail riding (bikes or horseback), river rafting, fishing, hunting, wild life viewing and much more.

Fishing: The Payette River has fishing, check the regulations.

Boating: Rafting on the Payette River is a popular sport here.

Swimming: The river could be used for swimming, but enter at your own risk.

Wildlife: Deer are common. Bear may visit your camp at night if you are not careful with your garbage. Elk are known to winter in here.

Phone service: There was no cell reception with our ATT phones but there is emergency phone service available at the hosts site.

Nearby Services: Garden Valley, Idaho, offers gas, propane, food, ice, pop, lodging and many other services a camper may need.

RV Dumping Site: No, the nearest one is in Horseshoe Bend, Idaho.

Location/Driving instructions: From Garden Valley, Idaho, travel just 3.5 miles east on the Banks/Lowman Rd to Hot Springs Campground on the left side of the road.

Fees And Reservations: The group sites may be reserved at recreation.gov while the single sites are available on a first come, first serve basis. The group sites start at $55.56 per day to reserve and go up based on the number in your party. The singles are $15.00 per day with another $5 for your extra vehicle.
