Name: Schoolhouse Point Recreation Site
Schoolhouse Point Recreation Site or Schoolhouse Campground depending on which sign you look at is located in the central Arizona desert on the south shore of Roosevelt Lake. The campground is mostly level on a hill above the lake. There is a tree in most of the campsites but they may not be in a useful spot.
Campsites: We found 40 campsites that were currently available to use. Some of the loops have been removed even though there may be signs pointing to them. Each campsite has a picnic table covered by a metal cabana and a fire ring with grate. Some have a bbq stand. The roads are paved, the driveways are gravel and the sites are dirt except for the 2 handicap campsites which have paved driveways with concrete under the cabana and surrounding the fire ring.
Host on Site: Not when we were there.
Water: Yes, there is a pressurized water system.
Garbage Services: Yes
Electricity Available: No
Restroom: Yes, they have flushing toilets and a lav.
Handicap Accessible: Yes, there are 2 handicap accessible campsites and the restrooms are also handicap accessible.
Firewood: No
Pets: Pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash when not confined.
Picnic Area: I didn't see a picnic area.
Recreation: Camping, fishing, scenic drives, boating, kayaking, canoeing, hiking and don't forget your camera. You might enjoy visiting the cave dwelling at Tonto National Monument.
Fishing: You are likely to catch flathead catfish, channel catfish, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and bluegill in Roosevelt Lake.
Boating: There is a nice boat launch with more than enough parking space.
Swimming: There is no designated swimming area.
Wildlife: The only wildlife we saw other than a few birds were several javalina.
Additional Camping Opportunities: Other camping options at Roosevelt Lake include Frazier, Windy Hill, Cholla and Indian Point.
Nearby Services: There is a small store and a marina in Roosevelt but we drove to Spring Creek Store for gas, sodas and snacks.
RV Dumping Site: There is a RV dumping station in Cholla Recreation Site. There use to be one across the road from Cholla but a recent fire damaged it and I am not sure it will be repaired.
Nearest Shower: There are no showers at Schoolhouose Point but Windy Hill and Cholla do have showers so if you want the option you may consider camping in one of those campgrounds.
