South Fork Campground

Name: South Fork Campground

South Fork Campground is set along the South Fork of the Clearwater River and Hwy 14 East. It is nestled in the forest along the river with wild roses, honeysuckle and daisies sprinkled throughout adding to the charm of the setting. There is a small, beautiful, green meadow in the campground with a pole rail fence around it. We visited in late June on a week day and were the only campers staying overnight. The campground is often full on holiday weekends.

Fishing: The South Fork of the Clearwater has a steelhead and a salmon run. We saw people fishing the pools below the rapids in several locations along the way. Check the regulations for seasons and restrictions.

Swimming: Not really, the Clearwater River flows by but it is not the best for swimming. Swim at your own risk.

Additional Camping Opportunities: We have reviews for these nearby campgrounds; Castle Creek Campground and Leggett Creek Campground.

Location/Driving instructions: From Grangeville, Idaho, take W. Main St to a right turn onto Mt. Idaho Road. Mt. Idaho Road becomes Mt. Idaho Grade Road in .2 miles. Follow Mt. Idaho Grade Road for 9.4 miles to another right turn onto ID Hwy 14 East. Mt Idaho Grade Road is rather steep so be prepared.
