Name: South Fork Campground
South Fork Campground is set along the South Fork of the Clearwater River and Hwy 14 East. It is nestled in the forest along the river with wild roses, honeysuckle and daisies sprinkled throughout adding to the charm of the setting. There is a small, beautiful, green meadow in the campground with a pole rail fence around it. We visited in late June on a week day and were the only campers staying overnight. The campground is often full on holiday weekends.
Campsites: South Fork Campground has 9 tent / RV campsites. Sites 1 through 4 are near the entrance.
Host on Site: Yes, she was very helpful.
Water: Yes, and it was good water on a pressurized system.
Garbage Services: Yes, in a bear resistant dumpster. Recreation.gov says this is a pack it in pack it out site so the garbage service may have been discontinued for 2011.
Electricity Available: No.
Restroom: There is a vault style outhouse. It was clean and well stocked.
Handicap Accessible: Yes, the outhouse is handicap accessible and the paved roads make it accessible.

Pets: Pets are allowed but must be on a leash.
Picnic Area: There is no picnic area, but there are three picnic areas along the South Fork of the Clearwater River a few miles downstream.
Recreation: Camping and fishing the Clearwater River for trout, salmon and steelhead seem to be the primary recreational activities here.
Fishing: The South Fork of the Clearwater has a steelhead and a salmon run. We saw people fishing the pools below the rapids in several locations along the way. Check the regulations for seasons and restrictions.
Boating: No.
Swimming: Not really, the Clearwater River flows by but it is not the best for swimming. Swim at your own risk.
Wildlife: We saw a deer and a large number of song birds in or near South Fork Campground. There are bear living in these woods so use caution with your food and garbage storage. There is a bear resistant dumpster for your garbage, use it every night.
Additional Camping Opportunities: We have reviews for these nearby campgrounds; Castle Creek Campground and Leggett Creek Campground.
Phone service: No phone service, however, Grangeville, Idaho, is not far and has both cell reception and pay phones available.
Nearby Services: Grangeville, Idaho, offers all the supplies and service a camper might need.
RV Dumping Site: There are two, however, they have been disabled to reduce cost.
Location/Driving instructions: From Grangeville, Idaho, take W. Main St to a right turn onto Mt. Idaho Road. Mt. Idaho Road becomes Mt. Idaho Grade Road in .2 miles. Follow Mt. Idaho Grade Road for 9.4 miles to another right turn onto ID Hwy 14 East. Mt Idaho Grade Road is rather steep so be prepared. Take Hwy 14 East about 6.5 miles to South Fork Campground which will be on your right.
