Wendover Campground

Name: Wendover Campground

Wendover Campground is situated on the flat land beside the Lochsa River in a beautiful, mature forest. There is moss hanging from the older trees in some areas. To top it off, there is a small creek running through the middle of the campground.

Campsites: Camp hosts, Bill and Norene, are stationed near the entrance and are there to help you. There are 27 tent / RV camping sites in Wendover Campground. Each have paved driveways, a picnic table and a fire ring. These driveways are long and should accommodate any RV. The forest is heavy all around but the campsites are cleared and somewhat grassy.

Water: We found two wells with hand pumps; one had rusty water and the other was metallic, but tolerable. You might bring your own drinking water.

Garbage Services: Available in bearwise dumpster.

Restroom: Yes, vault style outhouses which were clean and well stocked, but had been invaded by large black ants when we were there.

Handicap Accessible: Yes, Wendover Campground is handicap accessible.

Pets: Yes, on a leash.

Recreation: The Lochsa River is the main attraction known for its whitewater activities and for fishing. The Lolo Pass Visitors Center is only a short drive to the east.

Fishing: The Lochsa River is a very beautiful river and is known for its steelhead fishing, and also offers salmon and trout. Check your fishing regulations.

Boating: There are no boating facilities at Wendover Campground.

Wildlife: Deer, elk, moose, bear and an abundance of feathered friends inhabit the area. Do be careful with your food and garbage to avoid bear problems.

Phone service: No pay phone in the campground, nor could we get reception on our ATT phones.

Nearby Services: The Lochsa Lodge with gas, pop, ice, showers and other services next to Powell Campground.

RV Dumping Site: No RV dumping station. See Wilderness Gateway Campground.
