Warning: Rattlesnakes live here!
Name: Steck Park
Steck Park is a BLM park located on Brownlee Reservoir northeast of Weiser, Idaho. It has 41 campsites with water available throughout and shade trees in about half of the park. There are 2 boat launches. One in the campground is available when the water is high, while the other is a large launch with low water accessibility. The area is steep with sage brush and dry grasses. Fishing, hunting and four-wheeling are the primary recreational activities available here. There is a small area of sand dunes a few miles south also on Brownlee Reservoir.
Campsites: There are 42 campsites, B-1 is taken by the camp hosts. They are divided into 6 loops A through F. All are individual sites except loop F which is set-up for a group or a couple smaller groups. The roads and driveways are gravel. Loops A, B and C have lawns and mature shade trees while D, E and F are more natural and have smaller trees with little or no shade.
Host on Site: The hosts for 2013 are Linda and Russell.
Water: Water is available at several locations throughout the campground.
Garbage Services: There are garbage dumpsters available for your use.
Electricity Available: No electricity available.
Restroom: There are vault style outhouses in most loops. They were clean and stocked at the time of our visit.
Handicap Accessible: The outhouses are handicap accessible and the campground in general would not be too bad except for the gravel.
Firewood: Normally you will need to bring in your own firewood, however, early in the season if any trees have been removed there may be some free of charge.
Pets: Pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash. While there, I saw at least one dog unleashed walking with its masters so there may be some flexibility.
Picnic Area: There is no official picnic area but some of the sites in loop C are used that way.
Recreation: Recreational activities available at or near the park include camping, fishing, swimming, off road four-wheeling, hunting (birds and big game), wildlife watching and photography. Rock hounds will find plenty of opportunities in the nearby mountains.
Fishing: Brownlee Reservoir is one of the very best fisheries in Idaho for bass and crappie. Check the regulations here. Steck Park has a nice fish cleaning station on the left as you enter the park, please use it.
Boating: Brownlee Reservoir is more of a fishing lake than a "boating" lake. I have seen jet skis but never ski boats.
Swimming: Swimming is allowed with life vests but there is no lifeguard.
Wildlife: Birds abound here as do deer and small desert animals. One can see larger game such as bighorn sheep, but they are more likely to be seen further downstream in Hells Canyon. Rattlesnakes live here!
Additional Camping Opportunities: We have reviews for these nearby campgrounds; Weiser Dunes OHV Play Area.
Phone service: We use ATT cell phones and even with their limited range we had some service at Steck Park.
Nearby Services: Weiser, Idaho, is the nearest town with supplies and services available.
Gas and Food: The nearest Gas or food would be found at Weiser, Idaho
RV Dumping Site: There is one RV dump station available for your use at the entrance to the park.

I received this comment on 6/20/16, You might want to consider it.
"To whom it may concern,
You guys should add to the Steck Park web page that it is very difficult to sleep at the park due to the fact that the trains come every 30 min and sound their horns every time. I have never camped in a more inhospitable area due to the train noise. If I had read about it first we would have camped elsewhere. It is wrong to not tell the public beforehand that this is a major problem with the park. Please update the web page so that others are warned.
Thanks,
Marty" RV sites are $8 per day, tents $5 and your extra vehicle is $2.
