Name: Selway Falls Campground
I really liked Selway Falls Campground when we drove through it. The campsites are well maintained with the road on one side and mountains on the other. Meadow Creek is just across the road, and the Selway River is less than a mile downstream. The Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness Area is about one mile up the Selway River, so the things I like surround this campground: solitude, running water, wilderness and fishing. If you want to be near the wilderness without having to rough it, this might be the campground for you.
Campsites: There are 7 tent / RV camping sites, each has a picnic table and fire ring with attached grill. The road and driveways are gravel and trimmed grass covers anything not graveled or forested. There was a whitetail doe grazing in one site during our visit.
Host on Site: No.
Water: No potable water available.

Restroom: There is a vault style outhouse available. It was clean and well supplied. By the way, if you are used to the old stinky outhouses, you will be surprised by the pleasant odor of these outhouses.
Handicap Accessible: Yes , the outhouse is handicap accessible.
Firewood: You will need to provide your own firewood.
Pets: No pet stipulations posted at the campground.
Picnic Area: No.
Recreation: With the Selway - Bitterroot Wilderness Area at hand, the Selway River near, and Meadow Creek running past the campground, there are many recreational opportunities available. There are several trails for hiking, backpacking, and horseback riding. If you find Selway Falls Campground full or not to your taste, use Race Creek Campground. There is a large and highly used rafting facility which you drive through to get to Race Creek Campground, and of course there is fishing. The Selway River is beautiful and would be worth hiking further in for the opportunity to practice your photography or watch for wildlife.
Fishing: Fishing for trout, steelhead and salmon is available in the Selway River and Meadow Creek, but check the regulations for seasons and restrictions.
Boating: Not from here.
Swimming: No.
Wildlife: Selway Falls Campground is near the end of the road with the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness Area just a mile or so away. One could see most any big game animal. Whitetail deer, elk, moose and black bear are fairly common here. There are bear warning signs posted so use care with your garbage and food storage.
Additional Camping Opportunities: We have reviews for these nearby campgrounds; Johnson Bar Campground, O'Hara Campground, Rackliff Campground, Boyd Creek Campground, 25 Mile Bar Campground, Glover Campground, Race Creek Campground and Slim's Camp. For area info check out our Selway River Area Campground page.

Nearby Services: The nearest source for camping supplies like food, pop, gas and ice is Lowell, Idaho, at the confluence of the Selway and Lochsa Rivers about 20 miles from Selway Falls Campground.
RV Dumping Site: Wilderness Gateway Campground on the Lochsa River has the nearest RV dumping station.
Location/Driving instructions: From Kooskia, Idaho travel east on Hwy 12 to Lowell, Idaho, 21.6 miles where you will turn right onto Selway Road. Drive 18.5 miles to Falls Point Road which is another right hand turn. Selway Falls Campground is .8 miles up Falls Point Road.

Fees And Reservations: No reservations available. This is a first come first serve facility. We reviewed Selway Falls Campground on a weekday in late June and found every site available. Most of the campgrounds along the Selway River and Clearwater River to the south seem under used so I would be surprised if you found the campground full. It will cost you all of $5.00 per site per day to stay here. There is no extra vehicle fee posted.
