Murtaugh Lake Park

Name: Murtaugh Lake Park

Murtaugh Lake Park is a Twin Falls County park set on a peninsula in Murtaugh Lake. The area around it is farmland with an elevation just over 4100 feet. Twin Falls, Idaho, is only 20 miles away. The park is lawn covered with gravel roads and driveways. Several of the campsites have docks with them for swimming and mooring your boat. The group shelter is a great facility for your party with a large barbecue stand, several picnic tables, fire pit, horseshoe pits, baseball field and volleyball poles. There is a large boat launch and parking area.

Campsites: There are 26 campsites, 3 are designated as tent camping. They have a covered picnic table, fire pit, barbecue stand and dock. They are set in a lawn covered area. The other campsites have 20/30 amp electrical service and most have a covered picnic table, fire pit and barbecue stand. 6 and 7 also have a dock.

Host on Site: Yes, there is a host and he was very helpful.

Water: There is a pressurized water system with good drinking water.

Garbage Services: Garbage service is available in cans located throughout the park.

Electricity Available: There is 30 amp service at each campsite other than sites 1, 2 and 3.

Restroom: Three vault style outhouses are positioned about the park. They are clean and well stocked. The door handles seemed to be damaged so some didn't lock.

Handicap Accessible: There is a handicap accessible dock and the outhouses are also handicap accessible. This would be a better than average park for handicap access.

Firewood: The host had firewood, however, I don't know if any was for sale. Bring your own firewood.

Pets: Pets are allowed but are strictly regulated. Check out the picture posted in the campground about leash requirements.

Picnic Area: There are two or three picnic tables for picnicking and two group shelters for larger groups. However, these group areas must be reserved ahead of time.

Recreation: Camping, bird watching, boating, fishing, horseshoes, volleyball, softball and swimming.

Fishing: Fishing is the popular activity in Murtaugh Lake. I would expect good bass fishing.

Boating: Yes, check out our boat launch page.

Swimming: Swimming is available from the docks but the water is somewhat dirty compared to mountain lakes.

Wildlife: Birds, birds and more birds.

Additional Camping Opportunities: We have reviews for these nearby campgrounds; Waterfront Park, Schipper Campground, Steer Basin Campground, Lower Penstemon Campground, Upper Penstemon Campground, Porcupine Springs Campground, FS Flats Campground, Diamondfield Jack Campground and Pettit Campground. Plus Harrington Fork Picnic Area.

Phone service: We had cell reception at the park but there is no pay phone at the park.

RV Dumping Site: None nearby, but I have found one at Anderson Camp 1188 E. 990 S. Eden, ID. They charge $8.00 for use of their RV dump.

Location/Driving instructions: From Twin Falls follow this GoogleMap.

Happy Camper:

The caretakers of this campground give top-notch service and are committed to excellence! This means the area sites, restrooms, and picnicking areas are kept reasonably clean, which proves for a positive experience all the way around. Be sure to say hello when you see the caretaker driving around, and if you have any questions, call, they offer excellence on the phone as well. This site boasts remarkable sunrises and sunsets, fishing, boating, the fees are reasonably priced and well worth the experience. Be sure to check out the nearby Cauldron Linn Falls.

Nancy Coleman:

We camped here last August, we were suppose to stay 3 days, but left after 1 night because of the flies, it took us days to get rid of the flies that made it into our RV. Lake was dirty, almost every trash can was full of garbage (that's probably why there were so many flies). I cannot emphasize how many flies there were it was insane. I was so disappointed. Everything about this place was dirty!!!
