Name: Laird Park Campground
Laird Park Campground in the Clearwater National Forest is ideal for that long weekend getaway with the family. There is something for everyone. Although fishing at the campground itself is limited, the Palouse River and several streams are nearby. There is a nice swimming hole, trails, and Rover even has his own swim park! There is plenty of parking for additional cars. Paved roads and parking spaces welcome you into this heavily forested campground.
Campsites: There are 31 camping sites at Laird Park. Each site has a table and fire pit. The sites are spaced out a bit to give campers some privacy when compared to most parks.
Host on Site: Host on site. Please read the "camper comments" below.
Water: "There is pressurized water available, however it was down for repair while we were there. It should be available by now." I posted this comment about the water in 2010 and at the time of our visit in June of 2017 it was not operational. I don't know if it was ever fixed. Don't count on water here.
Garbage Services: No.
Electricity Available: No.
Restroom: Yes, several vault style outhouses throughout the campground. They were clean and stocked with toilet paper at the time of our visit.
Handicap Accessible: Yes the outhouses are handicap accessible.
Firewood: I would plan on gathering your own firewood or bringing some with you.
Pets: No saddle pack or draft animals. Pets are welcome on a leash. They may not be at the swimming area, however there is a separate swim park for the dogs.
Picnic Area: There is a very nice picnic area with a small playground, tables, swimming, and extra parking. And a second picnic area up in the campground also.
Recreation: Camping, swimming, sunbathing and walking a path on the other side of the dam seemed to be the main receaational activities.
Fishing: There is no fishing in the campground but brook trout can be caught above and below the campground in the Palouse River. There was a family catching crayfish in the creek below the dam. They were enjoying themselves a great deal.
Boating: No boating facilities at the campground.
Swimming: Yes, there is a swimming area at the campground on the Palouse River in an area that has been dammed to provide the swimming hole. There are no dogs allowed in this swimming area although there is a designated swimming area for dogs.
Hiking: There are a few paths in the campground and a longer one across the dam. If you want some real hiking check out the trailheads at Giant White Pine Campground.
Wildlife: This is a good area for birdwatching. Whitetail dear and birds of prey, along with ground squirrels can be seen. I haven't heard of any bear troubles in the campground but bear do live in these woods.
Additional Camping Opportunities: Giant White Pines Campground is 5 mi or so away.
Phone service: There is no public telephone and no cell phone reception or at least none on our AT&T phones. We were able to get service only a few miles from the park.
Nearby Services: The nearest towns are Harvard and Princeton.
RV Dumping Site: No RV dumping site.
Location/Driving instructions: Laird Park Campground is located 3.3 miles north of Harvard, Idaho on Highway 6, then turn onto the Palouse River Rd and drive another 1.5 miles to the campground.
