Laird Park Campground

Name: Laird Park Campground

Laird Park Campground in the Clearwater National Forest is ideal for that long weekend getaway with the family. There is something for everyone. Although fishing at the campground itself is limited, the Palouse River and several streams are nearby. There is a nice swimming hole, trails, and Rover even has his own swim park! There is plenty of parking for additional cars. Paved roads and parking spaces welcome you into this heavily forested campground.

Campsites: There are 31 camping sites at Laird Park. Each site has a table and fire pit. The sites are spaced out a bit to give campers some privacy when compared to most parks.

Host on Site: Host on site. Please read the "camper comments" below.

Water: "There is pressurized water available, however it was down for repair while we were there. It should be available by now." I posted this comment about the water in 2010 and at the time of our visit in June of 2017 it was not operational. I don't know if it was ever fixed. Don't count on water here.

Garbage Services: No.

Electricity Available: No.

Restroom: Yes, several vault style outhouses throughout the campground. They were clean and stocked with toilet paper at the time of our visit.

Handicap Accessible: Yes the outhouses are handicap accessible.

Firewood: I would plan on gathering your own firewood or bringing some with you.

Pets: No saddle pack or draft animals. Pets are welcome on a leash. They may not be at the swimming area, however there is a separate swim park for the dogs.

Picnic Area: There is a very nice picnic area with a small playground, tables, swimming, and extra parking. And a second picnic area up in the campground also.

Recreation: Camping, swimming, sunbathing and walking a path on the other side of the dam seemed to be the main receaational activities.

Fishing: There is no fishing in the campground but brook trout can be caught above and below the campground in the Palouse River. There was a family catching crayfish in the creek below the dam. They were enjoying themselves a great deal.

Boating: No boating facilities at the campground.

Swimming: Yes, there is a swimming area at the campground on the Palouse River in an area that has been dammed to provide the swimming hole. There are no dogs allowed in this swimming area although there is a designated swimming area for dogs.

Hiking: There are a few paths in the campground and a longer one across the dam. If you want some real hiking check out the trailheads at Giant White Pine Campground.

Wildlife: This is a good area for birdwatching. Whitetail dear and birds of prey, along with ground squirrels can be seen. I haven't heard of any bear troubles in the campground but bear do live in these woods.

Additional Camping Opportunities: Giant White Pines Campground is 5 mi or so away.

Phone service: There is no public telephone and no cell phone reception or at least none on our AT&T phones. We were able to get service only a few miles from the park.

Nearby Services: The nearest towns are Harvard and Princeton.

RV Dumping Site: No RV dumping site.

Location/Driving instructions: Laird Park Campground is located 3.3 miles north of Harvard, Idaho on Highway 6, then turn onto the Palouse River Rd and drive another 1.5 miles to the campground.

Roger:

Hi Teresa, Terri and I just visited Laird Park last week. You will find that most campsites offer a nice grassy spot where you may pitch one or even two tents per campsite. So yes you may tent camp at Laird Park.

Teresa:

Sounds like a wonderful campground! I have a question. Are there tent sites available at Laird also, or is it RV only?

Shawn Lawrence:

camp host was harassing a camper for he said they were draining gray water with a hose and it was a plug in to a generator that a neibor camper was helping to charge a battery. plus their were kids running around on toys all over camp.

the camp host was not doing his job their were two spots being saved with chairs and names and he said he fixed the problem and he didn't come back down for 4 for hours or more, they were still saved intell evening when a camper of choice finally came in.

I've camped here a few times. This is a great campground, especially for families with children. The swimming area is a nice reprieve from the heat and there's a short nature hike across the dam. The campground is usually well-maintained and the sites are fairly private and separated. Great for tents or RVs

Hanna:

Is the campground crowded? Does it fill up fast?

Roger:

We visited on a Friday about noon and there were many campsites open, as in more than half.

I went and ended up leaving same day camp host came down and got mad about my dog saying he better be leashed at all times at this time he was tied up and never released. He told me if I didn't like the rules I could leave. I have camped here many times over the years the host they have this year must be different because he is horrible

Hi my name is Diana Bridge I have to say this last trip to Laird Park was a real disappointment I can tell you ever since I’ve been a child my family has always gone to Laird Park and we love it there. This time was not so great the first and foremost problem was the bathrooms were horrible I know there wasn’t a host this year but still the bathrooms should be attended to. There was not any toilet paper in any of the bathrooms and the bathrooms near where we camped at 22 the ones across from 26 campsite I actually thought I was going to be sick as soon as I entered the door the smell was horrific , not only there was no tissue but it looked like the holding tank needed to be emptied. It was so bad I would not even let my grandkids to enter them lucky that our motor home has a small bathroom. I can see if tenters are there this is a problem for them . The camp grounds and the swimming area are great it’s the bathrooms I am concerned about.
