Glacierview Campground

Name: Glacierview Campground

Glacierview Campground is situated on a hill above Redfish Lake across the road from North Shore Picnic Area. This area is part of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. People come here to camp, fish, boat and swim in what I call the most beautiful lake in Idaho. The Sawtooth Mountains offer hiking, backpacking, horseback trail riding and fishing. There are both streams and lakes that one can only get to on foot or horseback. While you are camping, if you get the urge for a nice dinner, check out the Redfish Lake Lodge. Glacierview Campground is forested but the forest is thin, offering limited shade or privacy. Some refer to Glacierview Campground as Glacier View Campground, the sign says "Glacierview".

Campsites: There are 65 tent / RV camping sites separated into 3 loops. Each site has a paved driveway with a picnic table, barbecue stand, fire ring and a sand filled tent square. The roads are also paved.

Host on Site: Yes, there is a host here but I did not meet them.

Water: There is a pressurized water system with several faucets scattered throughout Glacierview Campground. I tasted the water here and it was not great, but ok.

Garbage Services: Yes, garbage service is available in bear proof containers. Do use caution with your food and garbage to avoid bear problems.

Restroom: The toilets here are flushing toilets and were being cleaned when we passed through.

Handicap Accessible: Glacierview Campground is handicap accessible.

Firewood: Firewood is available from the host for $6.00 per bundle.

Pets: Pets are allowed on a leash but never on any of the beaches.

Fishing: Redfish Lake is stocked with trout several times throughout the summer, and there are Kokanee salmon during their run. Check the Idaho fishing regulations.

Boating: The boat ramp and parking for your trailer is available at Sandy Beach Boat Ramp. If you need to dock your boat over night, there are mooring buoys at Redfish Lake Lodge. These mooring buoys must be rented and should be reserved in advanced to assure one will be available to you. I saw a few small boats beached at the campgrounds.

Swimming: Glacierview Campground does not have a beach. The campground is just across the road from North Shore Picnic Area which has a nice beach. There are beaches at Point Campground, Outlet Campground, and at Sandy Beach Boat Ramp.

Wildlife: We visited Redfish Lake in 2009 and again in 2010. During both visits, we saw a deer while driving through the campground in the middle of the day; so yes, there are deer here. We saw multiple signs of warning of bear so there are bear in the area. One would be lucky to see any other large animals but there are many birds and squirrels.

Additional Camping Opportunities: Check out the other campgrounds in the Redfish Lake area. We saw one camping area along the Salmon River by Hwy 75 just south of the junction with Redfish Lake Road. It was free and undeveloped.

Phone service: We did not get cell reception with our ATT phones, but there is a pay phone at the Central Services area and another at Redfish Lake Lodge.

Nearby Services: Most camping services (ice, pop, candy, propane, gas, laundry and showers) can be found at either the Central Services area or Redfish Lake Lodge. If you need something not found in those locations, Stanley, Idaho, is just about 7 miles north on Hwy 75. Redfish Lake Lodge also offers bike and boat rentals.

RV Dumping Site: There is a public RV dumping station at the central services area.

Location/Driving instructions: From Stanley, Idaho, travel south on Hwy 75 for about 4 miles to Redfish Lake Road. Turn right onto Redfish Lake Road and follow it about 3 miles to the campground sign which will be on your left.

Paul Eric Surratt:

Just a beautiful area in Idaho. Was their with a friend, the Late Sandra Kearney from Hailey Idaho back in 1988. I was hoping for a photo of the Mountian and the Glacier. But there are no photos of it on here. Lost most of my photos and this is one of them
