Crown Point Campground

Name: Crown Point Campground

Crown Point Campground is part of the Lake Cascade State Park which has more than 200 campsites in several locations around Lake Cascade. It is set on the eastern shore of Cascade Lake only a mile from Cascade, Idaho, and is covered with a mature forest. The area has small rolling hills with some large boulders scattered about. The shore is sandy which makes for a nice beach. There is a set of mooring docks for your boat and parking if you want to bring your boat and trailer back to the campground at night. Crown Point Campground is a very pleasant campground which strikes a certain balance between the highly developed park like setting and primitive camping.

Campsites: Crown Point has 29 tent / RV campsites which includes the host site. The host is in campsite 5. Campsites 8 and 9 are ADA equipped.

Host on Site: At the time of our review, Ron and Sharon, along with "Badger" were the camp hosts.

Water: Water is available through a pressurized system with faucets in several locations.

Garbage Services: There is garbage service available. Please use it and use caution with your food storage to avoid attracting bears.

Electricity Available: No.

Restroom: There are four vault style outhouses scattered about Crown Point campground. All of them were clean and well stocked.

Handicap Accessible: Yes, outhouses and campsites 8 and 9.

Firewood: There is a firewood stand which runs on the "honor" system. Firewood is $6.00 per bundle.

Pets: Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet in length.

Picnic Area: No.

Recreation: Camping, hiking Crown Point Trail, fishing, boating, swimming, sunbathing and playing on the beach are enjoyed at Crown Point Campground. Crown Point Trail is about 2.5 miles long leading north along the shore of Cascade Lake. Check out our hike to Skein and Raft Lakes.

Fishing: Lake Cascade offers fishing for trout, perch, large and small mouth bass, and Northern Pikeminnow. Check the regulations here.

Boating: There is a mooring dock at Crown Point Campground near campsite 1. To get your boat in the water, use the ramp at Van Wyck Park.

Swimming: There is a nice beach and many people swim, but keep in mind there is no lifeguard so swimming is at your own risk.

Hiking: There is a hiking trail starting near the entrance of the campground.

Wildlife: There are deer, fox, squirrel and birds. There is a bear warning, however, and I was told there has not been any trouble at the campground in recent years.

Additional Camping Opportunities: We have reviewed these nearby campgrounds; Amanita Campground, Big Sage Campground, Blue Heron Campground, Buttercup Campground, Curlew Campground, French Creek Campground, Huckleberry Campground, Poison Creek Campground, Rainbow Point Campground, Ridgeview Campground, Sage Bluff Campground, Sugarloaf Campground, Van Wyck Campground and West Mountain Campground.

Phone service: We had good reception with our ATT cell phones. There is no pay phone at the campground.

Sandra P:

Are your campsites open the weekend of July 7th and 8th.

Roger:

Hi Sandra, Crown Point is a first come first served facility. Which means you may not reserve a campsite in advance. FYI - idahocampgroundreview has nothing to do with the management or reservations for any campground. We are informational only. It is our hobby to visit and publish info on campgrounds.

Chris:

Crown Point is no longer first come first serve. Not sure when that changed, but currently it is not.

Machuly:

Love staying there - too bad it's gone to reservations. We like the flexibility of walking in mid-week.
