Black Rock Campground

πŸ“Œ Idaho City / Lowman Area πŸ“ 43.795417,-115.586851 β›° 4,036 ft πŸ“… Reviewed May 2026
Black Rock Campground is along the North Fork of the Boise River down in a pine covered valley on a bench above the river. This is a very nice campground with plenty of room. Facility wise, it only offers a well with a hand-pump and a vault style outhouse. So, when I say very nice it is the kind of camping I like. Some of the sites are along the hillsides so they are perfect for kids to play on. There are benches along the river for viewing. We found it rather quiet as we were there 2 weeks before fishing season opened.

Although the road to get here is a windy, narrow dirt road with washboard. There are multiple off-road sites in the area that are well used for camping if you are self-contained.

Good trout fishing, but it is bull trout area so be careful of what you keep.

No boating facilities.

The river along this stretch is not conducive to swimming.

There were bear warning signs, even on the outhouse door! However, we didn't see any signs of them ourselves. We did see many deer tracks, and we enjoyed the large beaver dams in the streams on the higher slopes nearby.
