Big Roaring River Lake Campground

πŸ“Œ Idaho City / Lowman Area πŸ“ 43.619542,-115.444035 β›° 8,080 ft πŸ“… Reviewed August 2021
This review was made from the information we observed from our visit on August 30, 2021 and was accurate as of that date.

Big Roaring River Lake is a high mountain lake. The campground is sitting on mostly level ground in a mature forest next to the lake. Travel to this area is on rough steep roads but there are still a few hardy souls pulling their trailers in. Most people tent camp here.

Amenities

Campsites
There are 12 campsites and each is equipped with a picnic table, fire pit with attached grate and a tent square. The roads area gravel while the driveways and sites are a mix of gravel and dirt. They're on mostly level ground near the lake. Just an FYI - Sites 4-7 are very close together. I wouldn't camp in one of these unless I had no other choice.
Water
Yes there is a hand pump equipped well for fresh water. Sorry I didn't taste the water.
Restroom
There is a vault style outhouse which was clean and stocked with toilet paper at the time of our visit.
Electricity
No
Firewood

Pets
Are allowed on a leash.
Picnic Area
You will likely find people stopping here for the outhouse and to eat a snack while riding the back roads. There is a picnic area at Little Trinity Lake a couple miles to the north but if there is a campsite open most just grap it.

Recreation

Fishing
There are trout in the nearby lakes and streams.
Boating
I saw a fisherman in a tube fly fishing.
Swimming
I'm sure many people swim but it is more of a fishing lake.
Hiking
There are several trails in the area. I have hiked from Big Trinity Lake to Rainbow Basin several times.
Recreation
Recreation in this area includes fishing, camping, hunting, hiking and the big one - ATVs they are everwhere.
Wildlife
I saw both moose and deer in the short time I was there. However elk, bear and many other critters live here. There were bear warnings on the tables.
