Sunny Gulch Campground

Name: Sunny Gulch Campground

Sunny Gulch Campground is on the Salmon River near Redfish Lake. It sometimes serves as overflow camping for the Redfish Lake Area Campgrounds. Sunny Gulch Campground is between the White Cloud Mountains and the Sawtooth Mountains, located inside the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. It is on nearly flat land with the Salmon River bending around it. There is a wonderful view of the mountains to the west. It is thinly forested with pine trees and sagebrush for undergrowth. The campground is nicely developed with paved roads and driveways.

Campsites: Sunny Gulch Campground has 45 tent / RV camping sites. Each has a metal picnic table, a fire ring with grill, metal cooking/barbecue table, and a tent square. The tent squares are filled with sand and will handle a good sized tent.

Host on Site: The camp hostess for the last fours year is "Karma". She loves this campground and will share her knowledge of the surrounding area if you just ask.

Water: There is potable water available from a well with a hand pump for your use. It was clean and clear. I did not taste it.

Garbage Services: Yes, in bearwise containers.

Restroom: Sunny Gulch is equipped with newer vault style outhouses which were clean and well stocked.

Handicap Accessible: This campground is one of the more handicap friendly campgrounds to be found.

Firewood: Firewood is available from the camp host for $6.00 per bundle.

Pets: Pets on a leash is strictly enforced.

Picnic Area: There is a picnic area with three separate sites. They are near the group shelter with a view of the river and mountains.

Recreation: Most any mountain recreation is available in the surrounding mountains, lakes, rivers and streams. Fishing, biking, kayaking, rafting, hiking, backpacking, camping, horseback riding, boating, sailing, photography, and much more.

Fishing: Fishing is available in the Salmon River, Redfish Creek, Little Redfish Lake, Redfish Lake, and many other bodies of water in the nearby area. You will generally be fishing for trout.

Boating: There are no boating facilities in Sunny Gulch Campground.

Swimming: The river is right next to the campground but is not very swimmer friendly. For swimming, I would recommend one of the Redfish Lake beaches. They are very nice.

Wildlife: Deer abound in this area. Bear are also around so be careful with your food and garbage. "Karma" has seen one bear in the four years as hostess and it was in 2010.

Additional Camping Opportunities: For other campgrounds, check out the Redfish Lake Area campgrounds, or for primitive camping, travel upstream and watch on the left side of the highway.

Phone service: There is no pay phone in Sunny Gulch Campground. However, it is only a short drive to Stanley, Idaho, or even shorter to the store in the Redfish Lake Central Services area.

Nearby Services: Most of the supplies one might need (gas, propane, candy, pop, etc.) can be found at the central services area. However, Stanley, Idaho, is only three miles north on Highway 75.

RV Dumping Site: The RV dumping station is also at the Redfish Lake Central Services area.

Location/Driving instructions: From Stanley, Idaho, travel south on US Highway 75 for about 3.0 miles. Sunny Gulch Campground will be on the left.
