Mountain View Campground

Name: Mountain View Campground

Mountain View Campground is on the eastern shore of Little Redfish Lake with a great view of the Sawtooth Mountains. It is in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area and is only a mile from the Salmon River. It sits on flat land between Redfish Lake Road and Little Redfish Lake. The forest here is thin but not so thin as in Chinook Bay Campground.

Campsites: There are only 6 tent / RV camping sites available. Each have a picnic table and fire ring.

Host on Site: There is a campground host. However, we did not meet them.

Water: Mountain View Campground has a pressurized water system with good water.

Garbage Services: Garbage service is available in bear proof containers.

Restroom: The restrooms have flushing toilets and sinks with air hand dryers.

Handicap Accessible: Yes, the restrooms are handicap accessible, but the campground would be difficult to manouver in a wheelchair.

Firewood: Firewood is $6.00 per bundle from the host.

Pets: Pets are allowed on a leash.

Picnic Area: Mountain View Campground does not have its own picnic area. Check out North Shore Picnic Area, Point Campground, and Sandy Beach Boat Ramp which all have picnic areas.

Recreation: Camping either in tent or RV is available. You can also mountain bike, hike, backpack or horseback trail ride in the Sawtooth Mountains. Photography and painting are also activities. This area is the most photographed area in the state.

Fishing: Little Redfish Lake and Redfish Lake are stocked with trout as well as having a Kokanee Salmon run. The Salmon River and The Redfish Lake Creek are also fishing waters. Check the fishing regulations.

Boating: I have not found any regulations for Little Redfish Lake in regards to boating restrictions. There were no boating facilities at either Chinook Bay Campground or here at Mountain View Campground.

Swimming: Yes, one could swim in Little Redfish Lake. However, the beaches at Redfish Lake are much better. Check out North Shore Picnic Area and the beach at Point Campground, both on Redfish Lake.

Wildlife: Deer, elk, moose, bear and many other species of wildlife live here. Do use caution with your food and garbage to avoid bear issues.

Additional Camping Opportunities: There are 7 other campgrounds in the Redfish Lake Area and at least one undeveloped campground on the east side of Hwy 75 just south of its intersection with Redfish Lake Road. If you cross the Salmon River, you passed it.

Phone service: There is no pay phone in Mountain View Campground but there is a pay phone at the central services area for Redfish Lake. We did not get reception on our AT cell phones.

Nearby Services: If you find yourself in need of things like ice, pop, candy, gas, propane or other supplies, check out the services available at the store in the Central Services area or the the "general store" at Redfish Lake Lodge. Also, Stanley, Idaho, is only 4 miles north on Hwy 75.

RV Dumping Site: There is an RV Dumping station just up Redfish Lake Rd at the Central Services area.

Location/Driving instructions: Mountain View Campground can be found on Redfish Lake Rd less then one mile off Hwy 75 about 3 to 4 Miles south of Stanley, Idaho.

Steve:

Great campground! Host were very friendly and very helpful when getting my 28' travel trailer in my spot. This is first come first serve, make sure to check the campground even if the "full" is up. It said full when we went in and there were 3 spots open. Super clean bathrooms with flush toilets.
