Lakeview Campground

Name: Lakeview Campground

Lakeview Campground is on Stanley Lake in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. In my opinion, the northern end of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area is the most beautiful part of Idaho. People come here from around the world to enjoy its beauty and grandeur. Lakeview Campground is a natural campground, meaning they don't trim the grass or pave the roads. It is set in a pine forest with some underbrush and grass.

Campsites: There are 6 tent / RV camping sites, each with a picnic table and fire ring. The road is gravel as are the driveways.

Host on Site: There is no host in Lakeview Campground. The host at Stanley Lake and Inlet Campgrounds take care of this campground.

Water: There is a well with a hand pump for your drinking water needs.

Garbage Services: There is garbage services available in bearwise containers.

Restroom: Lakeview Campground has one vault style outhouse. It is clean and well supplied.

Handicap Accessible: The toilet is handicap accessible. The campground is somewhat handicap accessible, although it would be hard to reach the lake if on a wheelchair.

Firewood: Firewood can be bought from the camp host at Inlet or Stanley Lake campgrounds for $6.00 per bundle.

Pets: We saw pets in the campground, but they are required to be on a leash or cage.

Picnic Area: The picnic area is called Stanley Lake Overlook and is described in the Stanley Lake Campground review.

Recreation: The big attraction here is the Sawtooth Mountains. With scenic vista after scenic vista, a photographer or painter might feel like he is in heaven. Hiking, riding the trails from horseback, fishing in lakes and streams accessible only on foot, or just camping with a great view, are all options when camping in the Sawtooth Mountains. The Salmon River is nearby, and many people love to float or fly fish this river.

Fishing: Trout fishing is available in Stanley Lake and Stanley Lake Creek as well as the many nearby creeks and lakes you may hike to in the Sawtooth Mountain Recreation Area. Check your regulations.

Boating: The boat ramp and dock is on the beach at Inlet Campground.

Swimming: Lakeview Campground has a small beach for swimming. However, most folks prefer the beach and swimming area at Inlet Campground as it is much larger .

Wildlife: This area is home to deer, elk, mountain goat, the occasional mountain lion, and certainly many large birds of prey. I did hear two campers talking. One stated they had had a bear in their campground that night.

Additional Camping Opportunities: Beside the 2 other campgrounds on Stanley Lake, many people make their own sites in the woods on the the road into the lake. Check out Iron Creek Campground to the southeast as it is rougher and less popular.

Phone service: No pay phone at the campground. There was no cell reception at the campground.

Nearby Services: Stanley, Idaho, has all the services most campers will need such as gas, propane, ice, pop, food and more.

RV Dumping Site: There is no dumping station available here.

Location/Driving instructions: From Stanley, Idaho, follow Hwy 21 west 4.6 miles. Turn left onto Stanley Lake Rd. Travel 3 miles on Stanley Lake Rd to the Stanley Lake / Lakeview Campground entrance. Or from Boise, Idaho, follow Hwy 21 northeast for 118 miles, turning right on to Stanley Lake Rd. It is 3 miles to the campground entrance.
