Blue Heron Campground

Name: Blue Heron Campground

Blue Heron Campground is a "loop" in the Lake Cascade State Park. It is a very park like setting with lawn and is well trimmed. There are pine trees scattered about as well as campsites. There are a few campsites close to the parking in which you could park your RV and use the nearby campsite but at most campsites you would need to carry your tent in and set up your camp. The campground is set on some gently rolling hills next to Lake Cascade. It has a very nice boat ramp and a good beach when the lake is not too high. The country nearby has some forested area and some open sagebrush area.

Campsites: There are about 25 campsites scattered about. I liked the ones by the lake but they will most likely be filled early. When you pay, don't worry about a site number. The sites are not numbered and you just park and carry your things to the site you want. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring and some have barbecue stands. The entire area is grass covered.

Host on Site: Yes, there is a host located near the entrance.

Water: The water is on a pressurized system and is good.

Garbage Services: Garbage service is available. Dump your garbage often to avoid trouble with bears.

Electricity Available: Electricity is not available in the campsites.

Restroom: There are 2 restrooms, an older one located near the entrance and another new one at the boat ramp; both are vault style outhouses.

Handicap Accessible: The campground is somewhat handicap accessible; however, there are no paths, just grass around the campsites.

Firewood: Firewood is being sold for $6.00 per bundle. Ask your host how to get it if you don't see the firewood stand.

Pets: Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash.

Picnic Area: Any of the sites may be used for picnicking, however there is a $5.00 dollar fee "Day Use Fee".

Recreation: From Blue Heron Campground most campers are looking to play in the lake whether it is fishing, boating, skiing, swimming or sunbathing on the beach.

Fishing: Fishing from the shore or from your boat in the lake includes trout, perch, bass and Northern Pikeminnow. We did a little fishing and caught perch on the bottom and two nice trout in a small inlet.

Boating: There is a beautiful boat ramp and dock here with a large parking lot.

Swimming: There is a nice beach at Blue Heron where you may swim at your own risk. The size of the beach depends on the water level of Lake Cascade.

Wildlife: There is a warning for bears so use caution with your food and garbage. One might see deer, squirrels, ducks, geese and other birds around the campground.

Additional Camping Opportunities: We have reviewed these nearby campgrounds; Amanita Campground, Big Sage Campground, Buttercup Campground, Crown Point Campground, Curlew Campground, French Creek Campground, Huckleberry Campground, Poison Creek Campground, Rainbow Point Campground, Ridgeview Campground, Sage Bluff Campground, Sugarloaf Campground, Van Wyck Campground and West Mountain Campground.

Phone service: The nearest phone is in Cascade, however we had good reception on our ATT cell phones.

Nearby Services: Cascade has stores, restaurants and services available for most any camper's needs such as gas, propane, food and pop.

RV Dumping Site: The nearest RV dumping station is at Van Wyck Campground which is about 2 miles away.

Location/Driving instructions: Blue Heron Campground is located on the south east side of Lake Cascade only a couple miles from Cascade, Idaho.
