Hiking: There are several short hikes outlined on the park brochure. We hiked to Mouse's Tank which was about a mile and a half round trip. We also hiked a loop near White Dome. For more infomation see our review of the Valley of Fire State Park.
Wildlife: We saw birds, lizards and one lonely desert sheep. However most wildlife in this very hot dry area is nocturnal and are not likely to be seen. Resident birds include raven, house finch, sage sparrow and roadrunners. Lizards, snakes, coyote, kit fox, black-tailed jackrabbit and spotted skunk make their homes here. If you happen to see a desert tortoise please leave it alone as they are very rare. Rattle snakes do live in this area.
Nearby Services: There is a small town to the north which is the closest or from Las Vegas to the southwest.
RV Dumping Site: There is a RV dumping station along the road only a quarter mile or so from the campground.
Nearest Shower: There are showers at Atlatl Campground about a half mile away.
Location/Driving instructions: I have included this link to a GoogleMap from Las Vegas to help you out.
