Morgan Creek Recreation Site Review

Morgan Creek Recreation Site
Recreation Site
Morgan Creek Recreation Site is on Morgan Creek almost due north of Challis, Idaho. The campground is on Morgan Creek where the flat land along the creek is covered with willows. The hills around are covered with sage brush, and the higher mountains are heavily forested. The summer days could be hot with no shade and the mosquitoes are thick and very hungry. Morgan Creek Road before Morgan Creek Recreation Site followed the creek and was deep in a rocky canyon. West Fork Road also follows a deep rocky canyon. I imagine this would be excellent hunting country.

Campsites: There are 4 camping sites, each with a picnic table and fire ring with attached grill.

Fee Schedule:
Free

Campground Reservations:
Morgan Creek Recreation Site is a first come first serve facility.

Additional Camping Opportunities: We have reviews for Cottonwood Recreation Site and Little West Fork Campground. There are many free primitive camp sites further up Morgan Creek Road and West Fork Road.

Potable water is available from a hand-pump equipped well.

There is a vault style outhouse which was clean and well stocked.

Handicap Accessible: The outhouse is handicap accessible.

Firewood:
No, bring your own.

Pets:
Yes, but should be leashed.

Fishing: Morgan Creek is small, but with the number of mosquitoes here, the trout must be huge!

Boating: No.

Swimming:
No.

Recreation:This is a very rocky, dry area so I would imagine rock hounds might enjoy looking for rocks. You could ride your ATVs, bikes, or horses in the hills around here. I would enjoy photographing the rock formations. I am sure hunters would find game nearby.

Picnic Area: Feel free to use the Site as a picnic site since there is no fee.

Wildlife: Mosquitoes! Ha! We saw nothing except birds, however, I would expect to see deer here regularly.

Phone service: None available here, but there is cell service and a pay phone at Challis.

RV Dumping Site: The nearest RV dumping station is at Cottonwood Recreation Site. It is on Hwy 93 north the Morgan Creek Road turn off.

Nearby Services: Challis, Idaho, is your location for supplies like candy, pop, water and gas.

Location/Driving instructions: From Challis, Idaho, take Hwy 93 north 8.2 miles to a left turn onto Morgan Creek Road. Follow Morgan Creek Road 5.1 miles northwest to Morgan Creek Recreation Site which will be on your left.
