Thatcher Creek Campground

Name: Thatcher Creek Campground

Thatcher Creek Campground is on the edge of a large flat meadow just off Hwy 21. Thatcher Creek runs through the meadow but is not visible from the campground. It is not really a destination campground as there is little entertainment value here and other campgrounds offer much better views. Check our pictures and you will see there is little shade or privacy.

Campsites: There are 5 tent / RV camping sites each with a picnic table and fire pit with a grill. I have seen campers in here and they are usually in large RVs. I think most people that use this campground stop here for the night, not for a long stay.

Host on Site: No host on location.

Water: Potable water is available from a hand pump equipped well. I have quit sampling the water as I got sick on our June trip to Northern Idaho.

Garbage Services: No garbage service available here.

Restroom: There is a "log cabin" style outhouse. It was clean and well stocked.

Handicap Accessible: The campground is somewhat handicap accessible. The outhouse is and the roads and driveways are paved.

Firewood: No firewood is offered here so you will need to provide your own.

Pets: Pets are allowed but on a leash

Picnic Area: None here.

Recreation: At Thatcher Creek Campground one can camp, view wildlife, watch birds and practice your photography. In the surrounding area, there are many more activities such as fishing, backpacking, biking, and horseback riding.

Fishing: There are many streams nearby such as Marsh Creek, Beaver Creek and Cape Horn Creek. The Salmon River is close by at Stanley or there are several fishing lakes. Cape Horn Lakes near Beaver Creek Campground and Stanley Lake on toward Stanley, Idaho, are great for fishing.

Boating: None here.

Swimming: None here, one could drive over to Inlet Campground on Stanley Lake. There is a beautiful beach there.

Wildlife: Thatcher Creek Campground is situated on the edge of a very large meadow. As I was taking pictures, I wondered if the big game in the area use the meadow. If that is the case, there would be deer, elk, bear, wolves and even moose in the area. There were many ground squirrels in the campground and they can be quite entertaining.

Additional Camping Opportunities: Check our reviews of these nearby campgrounds, Banner Creek, Beaver Creek, Bull Trout, Lola Creek, Marsh Creek, Sheep Trail and Trap Creek campgrounds.

Phone service: Both cell phone reception and a pay phone may be found at Stanley, Idaho.

Nearby Services: You will find gas, food, propane, ice, pop and most any camping supply at Stanley, Idaho.

RV Dumping Site: There is an RV Dumping Station at the Stanley Ranger Station.

Location/Driving instructions: Thatcher Creek Campground is only 15.5 miles NW of Stanley, Idaho, on Hwy 21. It is on the south side of the road.
